Katherine Hanlon, PhD
Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical SciencesDr. Hanlon is a dedicated professor of pharmacology with a passion for teaching and advancing the understanding of drug action and therapeutics. Her work focuses on fostering critical thinking and scientific curiosity in her students while contributing to ongoing research in the field. Outside of academia, she enjoys spending time with her son and her dogs, who bring balance, joy, and inspiration to her life.
Education
Ph.D. Medical Pharmacology, University of Arizona
B.S. Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics, University of Arizona
Research or Areas of Specialty
The Hanlon lab studies macrophage function in biological microsystems including the peripheral and central nervous systems and tumor microenvironments. Delineation of mechanisms underlying neuro-immune communication and tumor-immune communication holds significant potential for identifying novel non-opioid therapeutic targets for the treatment of pain and may also shed light on exploitable pathways targeting tumor development.
